Emma is an MS4 at UNC School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. She grew up in Durham, North Carolina, and went to the University of Virginia for undergrad, where she majored in Human Biology and Spanish. After completing her undergraduate degree, she worked as a medical assistant at a Dermatology private practice in Manhattan - a role that offered extensive exposure to cosmetic and medical dermatology as well as to the broader implications of skin health on systemic diseases. Since moving back to her home state for medical school, she has focused her research on autoimmune dermatology and is currently taking a research year to pursue an Autoimmune Fellowship at UNC Dermatology! She also leads Pemphigus/Oid Unplugged, an advocacy group for patients with rare autoimmune blistering disorders, and she won the Skin Smart Campus Initiative award on behalf of UNC, advocating for enhanced skin safety and awareness. She’s looking forward to her work as an Albert Schweitzer fellow, which focuses on early identification of autoimmune disorders in female patients in collaboration with Oral Health and Dentistry at UNC. Outside of medical school, Emma is a certified yoga sculpt instructor at Core Power, is planning her Charlottesville wedding, and enjoys finding new trails to walk with her golden retriever, Louie!
